Sharing Good News

Yesterday was a big day for my students of the previous batch as they received their examination results. Most of them were so happy and satisfied with the results, and so do I. 💃💃Their efforts paid off, burning the midnight oils was really worth it. My Module 1 class scored highest of all classes. 15 out 21 of them got A solid for Physics. As the lecturer who taught them for 1 whole semester , I'm elated with this good news.  It maybe sounds a bit arrogant, but I personally do not want to deny my own effort towards my students' achievement.🙈 Despite of my hectic timetable of my life, I managed to arrange extra session for my weak students. It is demanding as they really need favor on strengthening their content knowledge. It was quite a struggle for me to juggle with all responsibilities I have, the master assignments, work stuffs and non-stop things to do list, my children and also the charity work.                  ...

Innovative Lesson

Teachers always want the best for their students. They plan their lesson so that it will go smoothly and most importantly, majority of the students able to understand what is conveyed by the teacher. A few chapters in all subject typically require different approach so that students can easily grasp the content. In order to produce an effective lesson, I believe that all teachers need to to work hard for that in doing some innovation in teaching and learning, unless the lesson will be carried out in same way as always👀. From my almost 9 years experience of teaching, I admit that I could not have innovation lesson every time I teach, it is not easy! 😜 but possible. However, since the forth year of teaching, I had promised myself that I will do AT LEAST one innovation lesson in a week and I did it! It is better that nothing right? During the early years of teaching, I did not do much innovation in classroom as I focused more on strengthening the content. I just read books and searched...

Available Apps for Education

Personally, I think that almost all adults including teens have smartphones nowadays. Smartphones becomes the best friend anybody😄 When we wake up from sleep, we'll look for our phones either to check the message inbox or just to switch off the alarm! isn't it? Imagine we lost our phone for just 24 hours, our life might be miserable😝 That's how close are we to our smartphones. Due to this condition, many  sectors are making use of smartphones which benefits the development in their fields.   Same goes to education sector, many educators nowadays have started integrate smartphones into teaching and learning. I would like to introduce here a few apps/software  that we can use with smartphone or computer . I got to know all theses through a sharing session among my course mates in UPSI. The first category is video editing software that are  Edpuzzle  and  Playposit . Apart from video editing, both serve us free resources for teaching and learning. T...

Arduino Uno

Many schools nowadays encouraged into STEM based lesson. STEM that is the acronym for Science, Mathematics, Engineering and Mathematics subjects integrate into a lesson of particular subject. STEM lesson is often perceived challenging especially at the part of engineering. When we mention engineering, it means that there must be a process of designing a new thing in that lesson. In order to include engineering element in that lesson, Design Thinking is one of the approaches that we can use. It is a process of designing that consists of the processes of Emphatize, Define, Ideate, Prototype and Test and all these processes can be iterated.  In the process of constructing the prototype, there are various ways can be applied. Arduino is one of the options!. This kind-of-C++-programming electronic platform is an open source hardware and software. Arduino programming always comes with Arduino board, the apparatus that operates by reading the written code. In order to get the code fo...

Visualizing Physics

It is typical for teachers to face the lesson that is incomprehensible by the students due to many factors. Despite of that, teachers are always creative and innovative in enhancing teaching and learning for the sake of their students. They invent teaching aids, manipulate and modify everything possible around them. With current digital world, they adapt and make use of any available resources from internet as their teaching materials and also tools for assessing students. They sometimes acquired the digital materials sources from the pedagogical courses they attend. As a teaher, I always interested with any new teaching media that has been introduced, be it physical or digital resources. One tool that I have used and still using it is Screencast O'Matic (SOM) which is a tool that simplify our job in doing video recording and editing. There are a list of my collection of SOM videos I made for my students as my flipped classroom methodology for students' learning. All the v...

Game-Based Learning & Gamification

Game-Based Learning (GBL) and Gamification are two different things in education. The first time I heard the word of gamification, I thought that it has no difference with the game based learning. but logically they supposed to be different as the spellings are not similar. I supposed to learn about these two from Dr Nurul lesson 4 weeks , but we never know Allah's plan. It happens to be that I was absent on that day due to my poor health condition. I postponed writing this entry as it took me some time to consult and understand clearly about this content.  GBL and gamification are commpletely different!GBL can be divided into 2 elements; the first one is students play games and the second element is students make games. Both of these elements involved in the process of learning and it is being used to achieve instructional goals. Meanwhile, gamification is the application of game mechanics in a non games context which normally used for the purpose of assessment for example ...

Thinking-based Learning (TBL)

Since I were small, I always felt down as I thought that I am/was not a creative person. When I joined a group task of inventing something for Science subject, I would always be the last person that came out with ideas and usually my ideas were not as superb as my group mates. But then, to cut the story short, I realized that  it is not impossible for every one of us to be creative. The turning point was from my Curriculum Design class taught by Dr Razak, where he taughts us the steps in invention anything for the purpose of survival, for example, creating scissors for the left-handed person. Among the method that I strongly remember is SCAMPER which also called as creativity tool. SCAMPER stands for substitute, combine, adapt, modify, put into other use, eliminate & rearrange. BY undergoing SCAMPER, it is possible for someone to be creative and able to invent one new product!! Throughout teaching and learning, we always involved with thinking process. Our government also ...

Flipgrid

The current education trend is to blend in with the twenty first century learning (PAK-21), be it at schools or at colleges. Various educational applications provided which we can use to integrate into our 21st Century Learning session. Along with the rapid development of technology,we as  educators don't want to miss the use of technology in classroom. Among the educational apps we can give an attempt is Flipgrid app from Google Play Store. This application can be used as a social page based on a simple video response. Every students can be invited by their teachers who at first signed up this apps and acquired the code for the students. Apart from that, it can also be practiced for virtual classroom which means teachers can interact with their students outside classroom or during non-learning hour. This is also known as Flipped classroom method where teacher can interact/deliver learning ingredients or content outside the classroom. Dr Nurul introduced Flipgrid All cla...

Smart Classroom

Assalamualaikum & Hi everyone! The first time I enter a classroom for my technology & innovation in physics course in university, it intrigued  me. The classroom is facilitated with devices which hence called as smart classroom. Here I attach several snaps of the view of it, also featuring my lovely course mates & lecturer :) Smart Wall , Smart TV & Dr Nurul Smart Wall & Smart TV + Farah & me 💙 Smart Wall & Smart TV + Roza(from Aceh) & me 💙 Smart Classroom + K. Kamalia & Mira 💙 The idea of this classroom beautiful! The walls are painted at particular area which provides unlimited spaces for teachers to scribble on. It reminds me of how I always advise my students to have separate answer sheet every time they work on the worksheet. They are forbidden to write their answer or ideas for the answer near the question as they kind of limit their thoughts.  My reason is always be that the more space we have, the greater th...

Virtual Reality (VR)

Salam 'alaik,  Would you like to experience the fun ride in Disneyland without travelling there in reality? or going on a trip to our desirable places to visit? Plus we want to experience it anytime we prefer. This is possible but we merely able to experience it virtually and this is what we call virtual reality (VR).  VR is a technology which serves as  an interactive computer-generated experience in a simulated environment. It integrates mainly auditory and visual feedback, but may also allow other types of sensory feedback. This immersive environment can be similar to the real world or it can be fantastical.   Google VR box The application of VR can be found mostly from games. However, it also can be applied in education in order to enhance students' learning in classroom. Through VR, we are able to experience anything or places as if we are really there. Smartphone is one of the tools that can be utilised to apply VR. Once it is on the screen, w...
