Arduino Uno

Many schools nowadays encouraged into STEM based lesson. STEM that is the acronym for Science, Mathematics, Engineering and Mathematics subjects integrate into a lesson of particular subject. STEM lesson is often perceived challenging especially at the part of engineering. When we mention engineering, it means that there must be a process of designing a new thing in that lesson. In order to include engineering element in that lesson, Design Thinking is one of the approaches that we can use. It is a process of designing that consists of the processes of Emphatize, Define, Ideate, Prototype and Test and all these processes can be iterated.

In the process of constructing the prototype, there are various ways can be applied. Arduino is one of the options!. This kind-of-C++-programming electronic platform is an open source hardware and software. Arduino programming always comes with Arduino board, the apparatus that operates by reading the written code. In order to get the code for our preferable programme, we can just google it ! For the beginners, we are suggested to use Arduino Uno due to its simplest features among Arduinos. You can download Arduino from here. I think that Arduino provides many programming that suite physics content.  Moreover, it uses electronic board which again apply physics basis which are able to produce the prototypes such as traffic light, temperature sensor and light sensor.

Arduino Electronic Board

Code Writing
I'm thinking of applying Arduino Uno into teaching aids in physics. One of the Arduino works is counting. It able count anything that passes through its sensor. Thus, I thought that it is possible to be implemented in a few Physics experiments in Matriculation level for example; counting number of oscillations in Simple Harmonic Experiment. By applying Arduino Uno, we can avoid doing it manually because sometimes students tends to forgot their counts. Apart from that, I have an idea of applying Arduino Uno in homework submission. Let say, I put the sensor in a specific box,  where students places the homework. By doing so, I can save  a lot of time by counting their assignments as normally I have almost 100 students in one semester. These ideas are so interesting to me and I need to take a step further to learn and have a purchase on the Arduino electronic board😁

I got lucky by experiencing Arduino Uno from my Technology and Innovation class. 😎The electronic devices such as resistors, LED and connecting wires were inserted into the breadboard based on the provided notes. Najlaa and I were tasked to do LDR. LDR stands for Light Dependent Resistor. It works such that the LED will light up when the surroundings is in dark. LDR senses the light intensity that falls upon it. Here I attach a video during our workshop on how it works:

It is really an superb innovation! It makes life easier. No wonder the Arduino is becoming a trend nowadays in many sectors including education. I hope I can learn more about Arduino so that more contribution I can give in my career, hopefully! πŸ’˜πŸ’˜

Electric Potential

Electric Potential, V If Ali wants to move his charge towards the charged sphere on the left, he has to push against the repulsive force between the two spheres (because both are positively charged) Ali is actually doing work (when he push) , Remember W= f.s  ! At the same time, Ali's charge gains electric potential energy . If Ali let go his charge, it will move away from the sphere, it looses electric potential energy. The  electric potential  at a point is telling us the  potential energy of each coulomb of charge . When you move a charge in an electric field its potential energy changes. This is analogous to moving a mass in a gravitational field. Electric potential is a scalar quantity. Thank you, Mdm Ummi Atiah KMPk ~  May it Benefits You ➽πŸ’•

Magnetic Field

Magnetic Field, B To define Magnetic field, we start with the word field. Field means a region or space. The magnetic field is defined as a region where the magnetic force can be felt. In other words, a force (repel/attract) can be felt in the region. Bar Magnet We will find that 2 North(N) poles will repel if we bring the poles of two bar magnets together. Same goes to that of 2 South(S) poles. However North and South pole attracts. The strength and direction of the field are represented by lines. Knowing that, the direction of magnetic field is from North to South. Magnetic field is able to be detected by 1) Compass (have been used over 2000 years 2) Hall Probe Applications: Swipe cards, Video tapes & Computer discs -use magnetism to store information. History: In 1819, Hans Christian Oersted noticed that a compass needle was deflected by an electric current in a nearby wire. Remember!! the compass is used to detect any existance of magnetic field. Root Mean Square Current (I rms)

Root Mean Square Current As mentioned in the previous post , the value of AC is always changing. Then, how do we measure its value??? We could not use the maximum value of the current Io, because it only occurs at a moment. The average current is ZERO . Hence, one effective value that we could use the root mean square value. Irms . The formula for   Irms is given by: where Io is maximum current. Irms is the value that is equivalent to a steady direct current .  We can investigate this by comparing 2 circuits containing lamp each. circuit 1 uses battery as the source, while circuit 2 uses a.c. supply. AC supply is adjusted so that both lamps are equally bright. At this point, DC and AC supplies are transferring energy to the lamps at the same rate (Power).  By equating the Power of both circuits, we can deduce the equation of  Irms as above. Therefore, the d.c. voltage equals the r.m.s. value of the a.c. voltage.  From the the graph below and th...
