Thinking Based Learning (Decision Making)

In my 2nd previous post of this blog, I have explained about TBL for Compare and Contrast Template. By referring to the syllabus of Physics subject for either the high school or the matriculation, there are quite a lot of concepts that we can do for Compare and Contrast for example, reflection and reflection, transverse and longitudinal wave, series and parallel circuit and many more. In my opinion, this is among the thinking template that we can simply practice with my students.

In my last Friday's class with Dr Nurulhuda, we once again gone through TBL but this time we explored another thinking template that is for Decision Making. If we refer the thinking skills in KBKK that I've shown in my previous TBL post, decision making is among the 3 highest thinking skills apart form conceptualizing and problem solving. It means that this thinking skill is not that simple to be implemented. In real life, we are actually used to make decision in whatever we do especially when it comes to a big thing in our life such as buying properties and accepting job offer. The decision making process is significant to us if it involves an amount of money to invest on I think and might be because of other important factors!! To make this process easier, TBL outlines a thinking strategy map ( a set of questions) and thinking template that is suitable for decision making. We have practiced this template to decide the suitable dominant alternative energy source to substitute petroleum resources in a long term plan. Here I show you the thinking template for decision making:

In order to answer all the questions in the thinking template, we have to dig as much as we can the information that is related to our option. If we could not understand the concepts of the option properly, the process of deciding become harder. Students might spend a lot of time in classroom to do this TBL. Even we as teachers have also spent about 2 hours to complete the template 2 days ago🙈🙈. I really have no idea of how it is going to be if I apply this in my lesson, as so far I have no chance to practice it since we are on 1 month holiday right now 😂 I probably do extra class to specifically teach the students about TBL. Can't wait to apply  to my students everything I learned from this Technology and Innovation subject. Whatever it is, I always believed that practices make perfect! If we apply the similar method to our students, by time they well get used to it.

Concept Mapping

Salam 'alaik,  InshaAllah, today I would like to share about what I've been learning from my Master course that is CONCEPT MAPPING. We did it practically during the lesson, not just learning it by theory. This hands on experience really intrigued me.  Concept Mapping is a verb.  It is  a way to connect the knowledge of certain topics based on its concepts while Concept Map is a noun where  it is a type of graphic organizer used to help students organize and represent knowledge of a subject.  Concept maps  begin with a main idea (or c oncept ) and then branch out to show how that the ideas are connected to the other ideas. In order to link the concepts, we need to start a sentence by a quantity and end it also by a quantity.  Our lecturer, Dr NurulHuda had introduced a website  where we able to apply doing concept map. We practiced using this software by applying 2 topics. The first concept map is for the States of Matter and the second one is for the Trend in Educationa

Smart Classroom

Assalamualaikum & Hi everyone! The first time I enter a classroom for my technology & innovation in physics course in university, it intrigued  me. The classroom is facilitated with devices which hence called as smart classroom. Here I attach several snaps of the view of it, also featuring my lovely course mates & lecturer :) Smart Wall , Smart TV & Dr Nurul Smart Wall & Smart TV + Farah & me 💙 Smart Wall & Smart TV + Roza(from Aceh) & me 💙 Smart Classroom + K. Kamalia & Mira 💙 The idea of this classroom beautiful! The walls are painted at particular area which provides unlimited spaces for teachers to scribble on. It reminds me of how I always advise my students to have separate answer sheet every time they work on the worksheet. They are forbidden to write their answer or ideas for the answer near the question as they kind of limit their thoughts.  My reason is always be that the more space we have, the greater the idea we

Capacitors

Capacitors Capacito r is a device that is normally used in electrical appliances such as radios, computers and TV. There are many different types(looks) of capacitors as shown below: The function of the capacitor is to store electrical charges. Remember , we have 2 types of charges ( positive and negative). Once the capacitor has stored the charge, it can release electrical energy. I give you an example: The flash unit of camera also uses a capacitor. The fact that the camera can give out the flash, it is actually releasing the energy from the charge that is stored in the capacitor. When we measure something , it must has its own quantity and unit. For example, (i) the length (quantity) of a ruler --> the unit is metre (ii) the mass  (quantity) of a ball --> the unit is  kg Same goes to the capacitor, the quantity measured by the capacitor is capacitance and its unit is Farad.  Scientifically, the meaning of capacitance is the ratio of the amount of  charge
